Biodynamic Farming Skill Sharing Workshop
Join us on May 10th for an enlightening workshop focused on biodynamic farming!
This workshop will be a quick review of how to approach biodynamics presented by local resident Elisha Poulin. The workshop will cover the very valuable ways that we all can contribute to the health of our earth and ourselves. There are many ways to work with biodynamics. It can be quick and easy or it can be very deep and methodical. This is not only for farmers and gardeners, it can be for anybody who wants to share in this beautiful practice of healing, for any piece of the earth small or large. We hope to see you there!
About Biodynamic Farming
Biodynamic farming nurtures plants in vibrant living soil, fostering unparalleled health and nutritional benefits that surpass those achieved with conventional methods such as chemical fertilizers or hydroponics. This approach can help land cultivate it’s own fertility through practices like composting, integrating animals, implementing cover crops, and rotating crops.
This workshop makes use of one of our Rent Free Community Days to learn more or to host your own free community event at the BBCC email broadbrookcc@gmail.com

Are you enthusiastic about gardening, or interested in expanding your gardening knowledge?
Come join us on Tuesday, May 14th, at 6pm at the Broad Brook Community Center!
This will be the first meeting with an aim to establish a Guilford Garden Club, gathering monthly to discuss topics such as managing garden pests, garden layout and design, exchanging cuttings/plants, and sharing insights and expertise on all aspects of gardening!
If there's sufficient interest, we hope to explore the possibility of this group extending its reach to provide assistance to elderly or isolated individuals who may require help with their gardens in the future.

Regularly practicing the slow, rhythmic movements of Tai Chi smooths out stiff joints, improves balance, and promotes a sense of well-being. The class specifically improves balance and confidence in movement in a safe, easy-to-master program that one can do even seated, if necessary. This program benefits anyone from age 50 upward interested in maintaining their vitality.
Instructor, Leah Gessner, is certified by Tai Chi Vermont, a non-profit organization that promotes the Falls Prevention Tai Chi program and trains instructors throughout the state. Guilford Cares does not charge for these classes. (Of course, Guilford Cares always welcomes donations.)

Curious about what this kind of dancing is like? Come on over, even if you've never done anything like it before! You can hang out around the edges and listen to the music, or get swept up in the action! The dances are really accessible, and will be taught. There will be basic versions of the dances that are really easy to pick up for beginners, and over time they'll also offer variations and additional types of dancers to keep things interesting for the experienced dancers!
Please stay home if you feel ill or if you are testing positive for Covid-19. We'll miss you, but we want to keep everyone safe! For those attending masks are welcome but not required.

Fall Prevention Tai Chi
This class introduces the Tai Chi for Fall Prevention sequence starting from the very beginning.
You only need some comfortable loose clothing and a yen for adventure. You will find yourself in the company of welcoming neighbors enjoying oiling up their joints, rejuvenating muscle tone, and laughing some in the process.

Kimchi Workshop
Join Neighborhood Roots Food Collective for a day of group kimchi making! Bring home a jar of your own, the recipe, and instructions to make this a family favorite! Come and learn the art of making traditional kimchi as part of the NRFC summer workshop series. On July 27th from 10-11am at the Broad Brook community Center join Inusk Durham as she guides us in preparing a batch of kimchi. Kimchi is a traditional Korean side dish made from fermented, spiced vegetables.
Insuk Durham has been making and eating kimchi her whole life. She was never taught and the recipe just comes from growing up making it with her mother, grandmother and all the women in her neighborhood in Jeonju, South Korea. They would all get together every autumn for “Kimjang,” a communal kimchi making gathering.
All ingredients will be provided at the workshop and participants will be able to learn and help making the kimchi. Everyone will go home with an 8 oz jar of kimchi. This workshop is limited to 15 people with a suggested donation of $15, though no one is turned away.

Library Camp - Stage & Stream
Grades 5–8
July 29–August 2, 2024
9am–3:30pm
An immersive and inspired workshop based program with a focus on PROCESS. We’ve kept journals, created storyboards, scripts, sets, incidental sounds… of course we’ve developed characters, scenes, monologues, mini-plays along with many many theater games and exercises. This usually blossoms into a performance if the kids are into it at the end of camp. If the “show” happens it’s a fun window into the worlds they’ve created during Stage & Stream.

Green Up Day!
On Saturday, May 4th, join fellow Vermonters in this unique, statewide volunteer event to clean up our neighborhood roads. This is an opportunity for us to work together as a community and focus on a common goal -- cleaning up our Guilford roads. If you can volunteer even for an hour or two to pick up roadside litter, it will make a huge difference!
Stop by the BBCC from 8am - 5pm on Saturday May 4th. We will have Green Up trash bags and reflective vests for volunteers to pick up, and the dump trucks will be parked there until 5pm to receive all the roadside trash you can gather in your bags. Note that you can also pick up Green Up trash bags ahead of time at the Town on any day they are open (Monday through Thursday, 7am - 5pm).
We will also have a map where you can sign up for a road to clean. Or, you can sign up for a road ahead of time by emailing Jaime and Jethro at greenupguilford@gmail.com or calling 617 596-0460. Feel free to call or email with any questions as well.
For more information on Green Up Day events throughout the state, and the history of Green Up Day in Vermont, please visit greenupvermont.org.

Love Lost Diaries is Guilford Center Stage’s 12th production. Director Julie Holland has appeared as an actor in nine of the previous shows, and stage-managed another. Love Lost Diaries is a bittersweet story of a lifelong marriage that could have been so much more loving than it was, if only the couple had communicated their feelings to each other. The story of the married couple overlaps with the lives of three high school students who discover the diaries of the wife after she dies.

Shakespeare Page & Stage Workshop
Have you ever wanted to learn Shakespeare? Or try out acting?
We have a fun workshop series coming to the BBCC - starting April 23rd (Shakespeare’s Birthday!) at 7:30pm! If you’ve ever wanted to learn some Shakespeare, this is for you!
This approach combines acting and academics: the group will study a piece of Shakespeare's work on the page and then work it out on the stage. This workshop will explore a small piece of Shakespeare and perform it at the end, just for participants. (Though you can also observe if you’re stage-shy.)
In Shakespeare’s day, shows didn’t have directors as we know them. That left actors to figure out how to play the roles themselves. Shakespeare wrote his scripts with clues and subtle road maps in the text for the actors to pick up what he wanted.
This first workshop will focus on Hamlet’s 3.1 address to the Players: “Speak the speech, I pray you...” which will help us uncover what might’ve been Shakespeare’s notes to his own performers.
Attendees will learn some performance techniques and some comprehension tricks. Script excerpts and take-home material will be provided. Please RSVP to attend as space is limited!
Presented by Kelly Burr, Founder of Ground Up Shakespeare and Scene 24 Productions.
(Academically published as Kelly Nelsen-Pedersen) Kelly holds a master’s degree from The Shakespeare Institute in Stratford-Upon Avon, U.K. where her concentration was on gender roles in Shakespeare’s work.
For more information, details, and to RSVP please e-mail: Scene24Productions@gmail.com.
