Turning the Soil - Discussion with Roger Allbee

  • Broad Brook Community Center 3940 Guilford Center Road Guilford, VT 05301 USA (map)

Join us for a discussion of Vermont farming with Roger Allbee, and a panel of our own Guilford farmers on June 10th at 7pm.

Roger Allbee, raised on his family’s hilltop farm in Brookline Vermont, has a lifelong connection to Vermont agriculture. In his new book, Turning the Soil: 250 Years of Vermont Agriculture, Allbee traces key moments in the state’s farming history, sharing stories of farmers, leaders, and the evolving forces that shaped the land. From westward expansion to modern technology, the book explores how ongoing changes in land use and industry affect today’s agricultural sustainability. Featuring historical photos and maps, the book also reflects Allbee’s own journey through decades of leadership in agriculture, including roles as Vermont’s Secretary of Agriculture and Executive Director of the USDA Farm Service Agency.

Co-Hosted by the Broad Brook Grange & the Guilford Historical Society
