Making Books for Our Own Stories

  • Broad Brook Community Center 3940 Guilford Center Road Guilford, VT 05301 USA (map)

Learn to make simple softcover books to hold your own stories, drawings, and poems using lots of bookmaking supplies from Linda Lembke’s and Carol Hendrickson’s workshops.

We will begin by looking at field journals made by participants in the library workshop held in the spring. We’ll then work together to fold the pages and learn the sewing pattern for a simple pamphlet stitch binding. Linda and Carol will share variations on this binding style and examples of handmade books filled with stories and drawings.

In the second hour, participants will be able to make 2 or 3 more books on their own, choosing from an array of papers in different sizes and colors. We’ll take a few minutes at the end to share the books we made and talk about how we might fill them.
